TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. -- General Motors has only 13,311 Chevrolet Cobalt models left in stock, enough to last roughly six weeks. The automaker stopped making the vehicle at its Lordstown plant in June.

GM said earlier this year that it would draw down Cobalt inventories over the summer instead of building up supplies as it discontinued the car and prepared to launch its replacement, the upcoming Chevrolet Cruze.

GM has promised that the Cruze, due out in September, will be a more premium, feature-rich vehicle. The Cobalt competed with other compact cars mainly by costing significantly less.

Cobalt was an alright car and actually had one of the highest initial satisfaction rating but its price was its own rise and fall. It cost less which caused people to buy them but the quality was cheaper too which caused it to fall apart and develop dash rattles, etc over time.

Cobalt had it time and ran it's course. As GM furthers fitting global manufacture into in it's US market, alot of eyes on on the Cruze for style and dependability. The car can make or break this. And possibly GM itself. (LOL) Let's hope it pricing scheme doesn't go the route of Olds and Pontiac. And become to expensive to successfully market.

Thought the cobalt was a great car. It will be missed

I hope they can get the same results in Lordstown as they have overseas. The Plant has a varied history. I would assume a management restructure would precede such a project as this.

I drove a Cobalt rental once. Pretty nice. Not enough room for my med-large frame though.

We have a Cobalt (2006) Coupe and are considering trading it on a Cruze. The Cobalt has been pretty good. Usually 25-28 mpg doing a lot of short trips, as high as 38 (determined by actually doing the math) on an all-highway trip. We bought a base model, only auto transmission, floor mats, cruise control. Out the door for $12,500 cash.

Nothing wrong with the Cobalt, either. Had the steering recall done, and there just hasn't been much else, if you overlook young people driving around doing something besides watching where they're going.

I liked the LT coupe in particular. It had great proportions, long doors and a good ride.

Is a nice sized ride for a 2dr coupe.
